Access within Ţara Dornelor

The area is in large connected to the main roads and railways from the north of the Oriental Carpathians, having a pretty accessible level on short distances, but unfortunately not having direct access from the south of depression to the south of the country.

The accessibility level into the area divides the depression into 3 regions in a descending way, as it follows:

Vatra Dornei Area– Poiana Stampei with the higher accessibility, connected in east and west with railway access via the backbone road 502 Suceava – Ilva Mica, crossed by DN17 (modernized, connected to the European roads E58, E81), connected to south-east from din Vatra Dornei via DN17B from Bistriţei Valley to  Bacău and to north-east via DN18 from Iacobeni heading to Maramureş Depression.

Dorna Arini Area connected through DN17B (mainly not modernized and not much traffic) to the south-east from Vatra Dornei – on Bistriţei Valley – to Bacău, with proximity access through Vatra Dornei town to the rest of the depression. 

 Şar Area indirectly connected to DN17B through the additional county transportation DJ174 with the lowest accessibility.

Vatra Dornei town represents the main service and connection centre in the area. 

CAR ACCESS

DE E576, Suceava – Vatra Dornei –Bistrița Năsăud;

DN 17B from Piatra Neamț or DN18 from Maramureș.

TRAIN ACCESS

On  Bistrița – Suceava route, Vatra Dornei Băi station;

From București you can travel to Vatra Dornei in sleeping wagons.
